What Spot?

#6 Post by fishertrooper »

Hi Cortaz,

Are you talking about the Cunninger in Dungarvan, or have I got the wrong spot because I fished the Cunninger in Dungarvan from 2 to 6 pm with rag, whites, lug, mackerel, crab out at the tip of the spit. 4 rods on the go between 2 of us. Not a bite. There was also 2 young lads came along and they had nothing either. I did not see another angler fishing anywhere on the cunninger and I had a look around so I must be fishing the wrong place for sure. Could someone set me straight as this was my third trip to this spot with no fish.

regards

hi fishertrooper
did you see the 3 guys out in the water at the sand dunes??? couldent have missed them.
the 2 young lads gave them 3 bass and the bream. they had been down near the point also.
what convinced you to fish the point? i have never mentioned it except as a mark to spin from.
if you had fished anywere from the stakes down past the dunes with 4 rods u would have cought a lot of fish
the point???why, all cunnigar reports have said to fish around the stakes/dunes
cortaz.

Thanks Cortaz

Hi Cortaz,

As you head out the cunninger, Is it the sea word side or the estuary side of the spit? The reason why I went to the point was ,I was in Dungarvan a couple of weeks ago and saw alot of guys fishing the point so I presumed it was the point then. Its terrible to be stupid
I have been doing alot of fishing for Tope and stingers lately and just wanted to try something different. The cunninger sounds just the ticket.
I might even see you there some time.

Cortaz, thank you for your quick reply. I hope I can return the favor some time.

Regards
fishertrooper.

I suppose we're all feeling a bit silly today. If you take a look through cortaz's reports you'll find something about bait. Anyway, there has to be some challenge left. It is "fishing" after all, not "catching". :D

Lads, ye cant expect to go to a mark and catch every time. The fact that C catches so often is rare in a mark, especially for Bass. Local knowledge is key as is a bit of luck. How many times have we fished a mark that you would bet your life had bass and blanked. It happens, even to me..!

Good point well made. I've wasted days chasing other peoples' reports. You need to invest time in fishing a new mark to produce consistent results. Having said that, I think I'll be giving cunnigar a shot sometime soon...

Me too, I have had dreams about that place but I want to do it right. Would mean leaving Dublin v early to get down there for sunrise but would be worth it.

We usually have a pilgrimage to Kerry this time of year but I was thinking of fishing waterford instead. Not going to list the places but its nearer to Dublin and produces some great Bass catches.
