Shannon Estuary - Heavyweight Division

#1 Post by gearoid mc s. »

Week off work so down home to the motherland with me. Having spent the last few months distracted with pike fishing it was time to get back to the real stuff.

10/10/18 - prior to this were two shorter sessions with nothing to report bar a few small ray, dogs, whiting & straps. Hit for one of my preferred marks for a night session for 5 hours and first fish was quickly landed followed by 2 hours of nothing with a few snags thrown in, was thinking of home when in quick succession came 7 more, most to near or over double figures. listed below;

10lb 14oz,
8lb 14oz,
9lb 10oz,
9lb 9oz,
3lb 7oz,
9lb 13oz,
10lb 6oz
5lb 13oz

Rigs up & overs and pulleys baited with mack and squid. As many doubles as you could have wanted on a special nights fishing, chaos with baits taken with a minute of casting

12/10/18 back to the old reliable again but arrived later than I should have but while it started well it died very quickly, off to a huss mark to land more ray but one angry huss obliged on the last cast before home. same bait and rigs once more and packed up after 6 hours at it and the storm began to roll in. Ratchets set made for some great runs with the huss taking the rod from the rest and smashing a tip ring :roll:

7lb 8oz
11lb 4oz
2lb
9lb 13oz
3 dogs
8lb 4oz bull huss
