Anyone getting out at all?!

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

Was hoping to get onto the north coast on the 23/24 Dec but the strong winds put an end to that.
Getting cabin fever here..

So is anyone getting out at all over the holidays??
Any fish being caught?

Did some congering last week, 6 eels to 15lbs and lost as many more was hectic action. One eel spat the hook after I failed to move him off the bottom after 1 minute

nope! 'was hoping to go Saturday but the tides are in during daylight so that's no much use on such shallow beaches. And I hate rock marks in winter. Cold!

well done some piking and some lrf fishing. pike to 15lb by my son and a few follows on local canals it is hard going with the hard frosts.some stretches of canal had lids on them.rivers are all over the place.and a monsoon coming the weekend.lrf was hard work with only a few follows on lures and worm but you have to try.happy new year lads.

tomorrow is to be a brighter day with a milder temperature up this way. But a stiff s/w wind will probably make it feel a lot nastier.
intend to fish a n/e facing beach - so at least to have the wind at my back. Don't know how long i'll brave it but just need to get out of the house.
let's see.. report to follow

Got out for a good long session with a mate yesterday by making the most of a window of opportunity. The weather couldn't have been any better for this time of year. We were sheltered from the wind and the sun was shining. It started cold but got gradually milder, would have though it was a balmy autumn day at one stage. 8)
First 3 hours never saw a fish, but, come dusk, and it was like a light switch had been turned on. Double shots here and there: coley, flounder and whiting. My mate was chuffed too with his first turbot.
But the little burst of activity didn't last long, maybe 45minutes. Nor were the fish big, but it was fun catching them. And so, just as the switch had been turned on, it was turned straight back off again. I stood for a further 3 hours into darkness without as much as a nibble, again..
We cleared off 10minutes after high tide, about 9pm, and before the forecast heavy winds set in.
Nice to have seen and chatted to plenty of anglers who came and went throughout the course of the day. Plenty of people out walking and working off the xmas dinner too.
Have some rag leftover. Now wondering if those strong winds have churned the shore up..

Not got out at all in months. Last fishing trip I had was on the conger eels with mark gannon out of courtmacsherry in september. Hoping to get at the cod in waterford next week fingers crossed

Went out for a few hours again yesterday. The excuse was to finish off the last of a bag of fresh rag, yet I was still hoping for a bass. It was another lovely evening too, sheltered and mild, but I found myself the sole fisherman on the beach this time. Plenty of passersby though, and asking plenty of questions too of course: "Have you caught anything?" "What are you trying to catch?" "Are you daft?", that sort of thing.. Very slow, fished for about 3-4hrs and only eventually managed a tiny cod and then a coley of about 1lb. Better than nowt I guess, just about. Happy New Year
