goin on hols in august.any tips on alcudia,eg,beach,rock,or pier fishing.i know there are loads of mullet.is there any other species i can go for.thanks

Majorca may well be a Spanish territory but I don't think you can say it "is in Spain" without causing some confusion eh?

Like the Aran Islands aren't in Ireland? Spain is made up of autonomous communities, one of which is the Balearic Islands (including Majorca). Majorca is as much a part of Spain as Andalucia or Galicia.

By the way, a fishing licence is required to fish from the shore, rocks etc. These are issued by autonomous communites for fishing in their respective regions. In order to fish from a small boat, in harbours or fishing from the beach/rocks along the coastline, you should first be in possession of a licence. The licence, called a 'Licencia de Pesca - Maritima de Recreo' costs a little less than a freshwater licence and is valid for a period of either one or three years. There are no 'short term' licences available.

Okay, to be fair I suppose making the distinction about it being on an offshore island would have helped! :lol:

Alcudia is at the far end / "northern" of Majorca, far being furthest from Palma airport.

The best fishing on the island is reputedly on the mountainmous coast, if you get a chance visit Puerto Soller (beautiful spot). 8) . Take the tram down from Soller, for fun, itself accessible by train from Palma. Driving is okay on the island but watch the mountainous roads and the tourists! :D

The species around the rock marks are usually very toothy - wire traces may be required. Scale it down as they are not as big typically as here.

The other places I have heard mentioned in that region are around Andratyx (spelling?) on teh south west (past Magalluf etc.) and Cabo de Formentor in the "north". Access is a real big problem on the mountainous coast as its is most very very steep cliffs but if you like your rock hopping, it's fun and usually very hot! Lots of mullet in harbours but check the local regulations around fishing in harbours - often it is banned.

The other place I have been told has good fishing in the sea is at the "south east" from Cabo Blanco around to Cabo de Salinas (spelling?) where I am told there is good fishing, early and late, off the beaches as well as around the sea cliffs and rocks... flat and bass and similar species.

OK sometimes I can be a bit picky but when pushed I push back. Good tips on Alcudia which I think was the real reason for this post I will remember the next time I'm over.

hi. I fished in Menorca last year and Majorca the year before just a few miles north of Alcudia. as you said there is a lot of Mullet but also some very large sea bream which the locals catch by chumming off the rocks with a mixture of bread and pilchard oil,the best method seems to be a piece of bread shaped around a small treble fished under a small float i had never caught any sea bream before and was suprised how fast they fight.
there is also Barracuda I hooked one which was about fifteen pounds but got bitten off. suitable tackle(hooks and weights) can be hard to find so it is advisable to take your terminal tackle with you.
i flew with Easyjet and had no problems with security as all my fished tackle was to go in the cargo hold.

i was in alcudia last summer for six months i was working as a hotel entertainer before u ask had to have an operation so was out of working action so of i went to 1 of the little wooden piers were the glass bottom boats come in to pick up and drop off passangers i made friends with a spanish guy there called toni well as i was not working i got to do a lot of fishing best to date was 9 pound sting ray and a 16 pound butterfly ray which were both caught on live baits that had dead i was free lining best time for any big fish is around 7 in the evning you do need a licence to fish in the sea in spain and it is also illegal to fish with live baits and u can not collect crabs either lots of big mullet there average around the 4 to 6 lb mark i saw some monster barracudas there was 1 that was well over 40 lbs i stuck a bait in front of him but he did not even sniff at it any ways good luck

p.s i was fishing on the wooden pier in front of the hotel paraiso de alcudia

I remember an article in sea angler in the last few years where Chris Clark (i think) went to alcudia and had gilthead bream to over 10..... now that would be nice

was in spain last year loads of mullet showin, didnt catch any but the locals caught them on whole bread roll and 3 or 4 trebbles about sizes 10 or 12.
caught loads of sea bream, trigger fish and garfish on breag and bacon.
