Went for two night sessions of a pier , I brought my gear up to college this week and decide to try afew marks. It was well sheltered from the wind blowing in form the Atlantic , one rod close one out far. First fish on the scene were coalies had a tally of 20 small ones between 18-23 cm , a fat dog was the first fish at distance nice rattle compared to the coalies. Next the whiting appeared at distance nice sized compared to the usual pin whiting back in mayo. Average size of 28-32cm was well chuffed had 11 of them!
Hit the same spot Wednesday night. Same story with the plague of coalies but the whiting took awhile to come in the feed. After an hour a good rattle on the distance rod produced a fine whiting of 36.5cm with a smaller one at 34cm two nice fish. Had afew more whiting and eventually landed my biggest of 40cm followed by one at 39cm , dinner sorted! Called it a night as I had plenty for a couple of the lads back home.good start to the year-Joe
