Killiney Beach 10/11/16
Just a quick report. Was out last night on Killiney beach with a few friends. The sea was flat calm with a really bright moon so wasn't expecting too much apart from some whiting. It turned into a handy little session in the end with a good number of flounder, dabs, whiting and a solitary codling showing up. Pretty much everything was taken on mackerel with the odd one showing up to rag. I think I'd have had better luck with some lug instead but had to make do. A bit more of a chop in the water and a cloudy sky and I'd say we would have had a good number of flounder. Only one pic from the night and it managed to flop of the measure as I was taking it!

Jack, what part of the beach did you fish, out from the car park or up near the dalkey end where the steps are? Also, did you have to cast out far to hit those fish. What type of rigs and hook sizes did you use? I drew three blanks last week down in Arklow, Laytown and Kilcoole so need to head somewhere with better odds. Eddiejack01986 wrote:Just a quick report. Pretty much straight down from the steps. Casted out about 10-15m. Was using two hook flappers with size 2 and 4 hooks. I find it fishes best around an hour before high tide and an hour after slack water.

As you say, a handy little session. Bearing in mind that lots of flounder are caught in broad daylight and clear water, do you think the bright moon would have made that much difference?

That is true. Probably not on reflection it was probably more to do with the flat calm conditions.johnwest wrote:As you say, a handy little session. Bearing in mind that lots of flounder are caught in broad daylight and clear water, do you think the bright moon would have made that much difference?

Great pic Jack. It really shows how the coloring blends in with the gravel bottom.
