tons of macks on wicklow pier last night some lads had over 50 each
with friends like mine ----who needs enemies

Black Head Co Clare. 3 Sessions. 8 Macs. Much fewer than usual.
List 2010. fish

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.

Mackerel being caught at Greenore on the flood tide this afternoon, shoals chasing fry visible.
2013 species; 31

2014 species; 27

2015 species; 28

2016 species; 32

2017 species;28

2018 species; 33

2019 species; ballan wrasse,blonde ray, coalfish, cod, cuckoo wrasse, dab, dogfish, flounder, goldsinny wrasse, ling, mackerel, plaice, pollack, poorcod, pouting, scad, sea scorpion, spotty ray, spurdog, thornback, tub gurnard, turbot, whiting.

Good few macks being caught off Rosscarbery pier and even more being caught from the rocks

was only 1 fella on salmon/conger rock , he had 10 when i saw him but looking at as many as i saw breaking the water and the amount of bait fish there id say he went home with 50 plus .

Ballycotton hopping with them last evening till about 9pm. Decent sized ones too. Hazardous angling conditions with hooks flying everywhere and the usual waste and greed unfortunately with people taking them away by the bucket.

Hi Lads,

Long time lurker here, but often check out the Shore Reports.

I finally managed to head out for a couple of hours to Howth (Balscadden) yesterday, with the plan of catching a few tasty mackerel for dinner.
It was busy as usual but very few mackerel were being caught.

Is there a specific time or tide which is best for Mackerel?
I've heard different people swear by different times...
E.G It's only worthwhile at low tide, otherwise they can't see the feathers.
E.G Hour coming up to high tide is when they're coming in to feed.

Is there any pattern here or is their appearance more or less random?

On the plus side, I didn't blank and caught I fish I've never seen before.

Would I be right in saying this (attached) is a Garfish?

BlueBeard - it is a garfish. Never seen one of them caught in howth but nice to see.

In my opinion 3 hours either side of high tide is best for howth. The water is too coloured this weekend. Wait for a few days of south westerly winds and try again when the water is a bit clearer.

i normally go 2 hours before high tide and stay 2 hours after , but if the macks are there you would catch em anytime almost , neverheard the thing about them not seeing the feathers sounds like rubbish

Sporadic at deep water Quay cobh last night in half an hour 3 of us had maybe a dozen. Fine big fat ones

Three hours before high water and 3 hrs below spinners at low water
I have not fished in two years hoping to change that this year with anything ?

couple of mackerel caught near ringaskiddy at high tide a few nights ago. likely would have been more but only had an hour or so

Few Mackerel and a Pollock at Dun Laoghaire cooked them there with Kelly Kettle can't beat it.

havent been able to go fishing the last few weeks but had a look in kinsale harbour the other morning its still chocca with bait fish so id imagine the macks are still about too
