Fussy Fish in Fussy Venues.

#1 Post by Johnboy »

Having been lured myself by some flashy "Cotton Candy", "Candy Flashing Plate" and "Joker" colors by those artists at IMA my plug carrier looks like a kaleidoscope, however I have chucked out these colours again and again, and even the more conventional Chartreuse, white and orange bellied lures but the bass will only hit natural colors.
Even in colored water!
Yes. The Bora Mullet, Sandeel, Silver, and just about any blue hued colors too are being smashed and it's not just this year and it's not just me. It seems my local estuary is inhabited by fussy fish!, This is my first year fishing with plugs and in previous years the simple metal lures such as the Tsunami Shockwave, Toby and German Sprat were my weapons of choice.
Do any anglers here have any opinions or theories when it comes to colors? I was convinced bass couldn't see in color but they seem to be spooked by the more garish patterns here.

Bass see in colour during daylight hours and then change to a 'black and white' vision mode later in the day. (This is not optional)

Colour may not be the singular reason for poor takes

Size
Profile
Movement type

all play roles too - a lot of forage present may indicate they could be 'fed up' or else they may have become selective in their feeding pattern
