#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

hi lads... i'll be fishing there from the wed 5th july till sun 9th july...

so what will i bring.. where can i get bait...

was just thinking of bringing my 11ft spinning rod... good enough to catch doggies and huss on, light enough to get a good fight out of a 8lbs pollock...

but then i might bring my beachcaster....

what do you think???

what are main targeted species there, and what else can be caught???

also a good chance to fish with me if you want...

will exchange numbers nearer the time

Redmonds in Ballygarrett has rag at this time of year.

You're coming all the way over here and you don't want to go after bass. Fair enough. To each his own. :) :) That rod should be good for in close ledgering for bass in calm conditions from the beaches. Should also be good for plugging. I use a carp rod as an all rounder for exactly this type of bass fishing. I've never caught pollock of that kind of size in 20 years here, but then I've never really fished for them.

Would give you options out far in daylight for flatties.

Bass. Bass. Flatties. Bass. Not in the same numbers perhaps as the south coast. Of course, I may be biased.

sorted so...

the reference to doggies and huss is that it is strong enough to drag in any fish...
(11ft leeda quicksilver)
i should be able to cast a 2oz lead further out than a four with my beachcaster... just have to swap reals.....might actually bring both (7ht and abu 6500) along with various plugs poppers and spinners..

bass is on the menu...

will be in contact nearer the day..

Sounds perfect for ledgering for bass. I picked up a couple (small) on my 12ft carp rod last night just trotting a 1oz weight along the bottom about 40 yds out.

Would only be worth having something heavier if conditions get rough and weed becomes an issue. But then there's always the Strand Bar

so this is what i'm bringing..

selection of hooks. 2/0 - no1...

leads 2oz and various but lighter leads

a float or two

spinners, plugs, poppers and maybe a set of feathers..

multiplier and maybe a small fixed spool (dunno about that yet)

11ft spinning rod (leaving beachcaster behind, i dont trust bus eireann or anyone else enough to leave it in the luggage compartments)

and myself (the most important thing there is :D )
