Querying Rod Tip Lights

#1 Post by eddyfletch »

So what do you guys use for rod tip lights?

I Had a weird thought the other day would you be able to use glow in the dark paint ? Would it work or would it damage the rod and ruin it ? Bizarre idea i know

you would be suprised the amount that have flown off in wet weather

iv used the bind on ones but would rather not have the track permanently on the rod ... Maybe a nice light that goes up the leg of the tripod

Glow in the dark paint for tip sections is well used already in a lot of continental type rods and works well[with a uv torch].The clip on torch idea appears to be a good one especially when used in conjunction with a decent quality reflective tape .The best ive used is the Halfords one in red, alot of the other stuff on the market is very thick and not too easy to apply to the tip.Another decent one is the mighty bright tip tape in purple or orange very easy to see and lasts well especially if clear nail varnish is used to seal the overlap of tape, thus stopping the tape from lifting after a few outings.
If stealth is your thing then the humble starlight is hard to beat especially in summer when lots of flies can be present once you turn your headlight on,just remember to remove prior to casting in case of line wrap.

Veals are doing a small clip on to your tripod light now that shines up onto your tip.

I like to use kids glow in the dark bracelets from the 2€ shop.nice big size, plus you get joiners with them, that can be lashed or taped to your rod tip,to make changing the glowstick handy.easy to see too, there about 9" long. :)

I use this setup. The light reflects off the guides. Woodies do a pack of 3 torches for €10 you need to put a bit of tape around the torch to bulk it up to get it to hold in place. The one in the pic was a Lidl torch that fitted in nicely.

I also use tip tape on my knife handle, forceps and scissors so if I drop them in the dark I can easily find them.
