new boat rod - recommendations please

#1 Post by kieran »

Hi all

The ancient Beastmaster I had came back in one extra piece the last day, and I didn't bother even asking for an explanation, it owed several owners nothing.

Looking for a new boat rod, not an uptider, something shorter but sufficient to use off rock marks for short lobs for huss and congers, prefer a 12-20lb option so that if I do get out in inner Clew Bay or even a bit further, that it can cope with what's down there (not skate) and still allow fish give a decent account of themselves...

Any recommendations based on your own experience with the rod, ideally with links to Irish suppliers? Anything to avoid at all costs?

Thanks

If you really want a lovely light but powerful 12/20 rod then look no further than a Daiwa Kenzaki 12/20.
It is a really high class performer that you will find loads of uses for. It is light in weight and light in action but with plenty power. I use mine for shark fishing but will happily use it drifting about with 8oz leads too, congers, tope, blondes etc. no problem!

cheers people, many thanks

@ Jim Kenzaki reports are wow, and so is the price! Best I ahev found for a two piece is GBP 90 + post and packaging. Any idea who the Irish stockist is?
@ Jelly I was looking at this in a local shop, he's quoting around EUR 60 for a two piece which seems very reasonable... can I ask how much you paid?

Thanks to everyone

Henrys and tackle direct list them. Most shops can get them. Most list them at €139.00 maybe a call would elicit a deal!
Worth the money and not too much extra given what you are buying.

The ugly stick gx 2 behaves like it's worth a lot more than it is. I've got the whole range of them :)
