Sorrento rocks to Killiney beach

Bait: Ragworm, mussel and Peeler
Float fishing (Sorrento)
3 hook dropper (Killiney)
Weather: overcast, wind 20km SSE
Results: blanked again

Decided to try target some wrasse around the Hawk Cliff area, float fishing with small hard back crab (tipped with rag. Tried many areas, various depths. Although it looks like it might hold a few wrasse, nothing showed. Moved to Killiney beach. Had a few very small taps on the rod, suspected it was crabs. Suspicions confirmed when I brought in a velvet swimming crab. Tried 3 locations along the beach. Finally got a good bite and struck into a fish which pulled strong. 20 seconds into the fight and got snagged. Moved off to one side and pulled out of the snag and the fish was gone. Gave it another 20 mins and packed up.

On the wrasse and float fishing, you may find that a single hook fished 15 cms above a weight (on a rotten bottom link, much lighter line) is more successful, especially on rock marks where there are holes and plateaus and you need to winkle out the fish... Some people even use small rocks superglued to light line as wrasse "leads"...

Thanks very much Kieran, I will try out that technique next time. I like the idea of using the stones as weights with a weak link. I'm on a learning curve with the sea angling The advice is much appreciated.

keep trying that spot it has loads of big wrasse, i had a lovely gunard one time there and a 100cm hound at distance(100yards), where you close to the naked people at the swim hole n shelters??

Heres a few I had from last year around this time of year. that area thows up good wrasse keep trying pal. Only thing is i think the munchers are onto that spot found a bbq last time and fishing was very slow could be just the day that was in it but I havent returned as of yet but it could of been anyone just having bbq but id have my doubts.Id try sandeels aswell

Thanks very much fishonit. They're some nice photos. I will try it again one of these days. Hopefully it was just poor fishing that day, and the fish have not been taken away. I knew it would have to hold some good wrasse. I was fishing far enough away from the swimmers, don't want to cause any trouble or injure anyone. Thanks for the encouragement mate, I will definitely try it again, and will post here how I get on.
