As is inevitable this time of year, we all get to visit foreign shores, france, spain, kerry! In two weeks I take the motley crew to Normandy for a week and am planning to bring the rod along (It took a while but I persuaded her that it would be a good thing!!). Has anybody fished this part of the world and is ther anything I should know about shore fishing over there. Licence requirements etc? Im sure the usual species, bass, macks, pollock etc will be available and maybe a few that aren't common at home. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

No need for a PM on this one. If you're fishing the Northern shores, you will have far more success than I did on the South West! The north from Bordeaux upwards has many of the same species as Ireland and with some equally spectacular marks. Now is the time for the migration of Meagre which are a large Bass species. I've never caught one, but they do say they are one helluva fish!!

There are a few good magazines in the newsagents/Carrefour over there which tell you where is fishing well and baits to use. Carrefour and several other supermarkets sell bait (appats) too. You'll see some of these on the website below.

Generally, the beaches will fish better into darkness, but for the rocky marks, you have the deepwater to improve things.

Fishing from beach, pier or rocks is free without the need for a licence.

Hi all

Summer Holidays 2007 calling! 8)

Looking to see if there is anything worth catching off the shore around Sete / Adge in late June, presumably of an evening or in darkness.

Any help apperciated. Found a french site http://www.pecheaubar.com that may be of use to you but you will need to have excellent French! :shock: so that's me buggered! I am using babelfish so we will see...

Luckily, there's no licence required for sea fishing in France. You can fish anywhere it is safve to do so, but as the beaches can be very crowded, you will find that a lot of the locals arrive as it is getting dusk. This is also supposed to be the best time!

Rigs are as you would use in Ireland. Try and get to a supermarket or magazine shop and flick through some of the French angling mags. I picked up one with a map of all the fishing spots along the whole French coast. Also detailed species & baits. - wish I'd kept that one!

You can either use:
-jerkbaits (flashminnow, rapala CD, etc.....)
-topwater lures (chug bug, aile magnet, sammy, super spook, etc....)
-soft plastic baits (shads, rubber eels, etc...)

Maybe on the fly also :wink:
