East Coast Specimen Hunt

#1 Post by boycie89 »

People:

Duration:
12 hours
Tide:
Both stages
Weather:
Overcast
Bait:
Lug , crab , mack
Rigs:

Results:

Recently decided to get back into the fishing so my first specimen hunt had to be done .
Myself and a mate got our thinking caps on for the East Coast and the marks we could possibly hit.
The plan was made and we settled on two species .. Bass and 3 bearded Rockling .
We got to our first mark and my first cast produced a nice plump bass of 50cm ,
The next 5 casts produced 5 flounder , I knew the chance of a big bass was gone the second the flounders had moved in so we decided to make a quick move to another nearby mark .
With rods set back up on my first cast on the new mark I put a 2 hook flapper 20 yds loaded with lug / crab cocktail .
Within minutes my rod went seaward , Fish on !!
5 minutes and 4 runs later a beautiful female slab of silver hit the beach and tipped my scales at 10lb 1oz !! First target specimen in the bag ,
The flounder came in that mark soon after so we decided to try for our second target species the rockling ,.
We arrived at out mark at 11pm and got the mack baits out .
I wasn't in the water more than 30 seconds when my rod doubled ,
A cracking Rockling of 1lb 13oz and yet the second target species / specimen of the day ,
To get your target species is a red letter day for any angler .
It's safe to say the bug is back ;) .

Fine Bass and Rockling, well done.
The bass looks like it recently spawned.
