Looking forward to season 2015
It's that time of year when reckless optimism triumphs over grinding reality!
Lure boxes organised,a few nice new shiny ones which are "guaranteed" to catch !
What do people hope to achieve this year? Any new techniques people want to try ?
Personally , I'm going to try to catch a fish off the surface.
So hopes and dreams for this year's lure fishing season?

Looking forward to the season myself, have stocked up on lures and just waiting for the water temperature to rise a bit, the winter is dragging on a bit.

Eagle eyes Jim! I know that a take on a surface is extremely unlikely this time of year but nice to have that option. I gave that lure a few casts yesterday- it absolutely flies out.Never seen a lure to cast so far.JimC wrote:You have a Patchenko .... If there are bass around he will take!

At the start of last week the inshore temps were heading up towards 9.5 and it was looking good. However a good few frosts have caused them to drop back down to around 8 again. We need a few more sunny days like yesterday !Buddner wrote:Looking forward to the season myself, have stocked up on lures and just waiting for the water temperature to rise a bit, the winter is dragging on a bit.

Indeed they do fly out. There's a great feeling belting one out! I'd say I've caught more bass on the P than any other surface lure I have. The trusty Spook is a great surface lure too. The one that has me scratching my head is a Feed Popper.... Flogged it and have never had a bass on it!!shortcircuit wrote:Eagle eyes Jim! Lads i was looking at the 'SAVAGE GEAR PANIC PREY 135 SURFACE LURE' . It looks the same as the Patchenkos but does it cast the same and have the same action and more importantly does it catch as many Bass???????

Ha, it's actually the panic prey I have - it is seemingly a carbon copy of the patchinko.
I never used the patchinko myself but I can tell you that this thing is a pure rocket to cast. The action seems good too, if you "walk the dog" with it it zig zags and gives little splashes, which I think is the idea.
I have spoken to a few people and one person, who sells a lot of lures, said that there's no reason not to go for the panic prey it does the exact same thing as the patchinko for half the price.

Re: Looking forward to season 2015
Tbh I wouldn't have got the panic prey only for the recommendation of someone who knows their stuff.
I would not put the panic prey in the same category as the other "copy" lures from China or Taiwan, as Savage Gear would be regarded as making quality stuff.
In my very limited experience, the copies seem to have pretty much the same action as the originals, but the single biggest difference (in my experience) is that they don't cast nearly as well.
The other downside elements would not put me off as much as the casting ("nice" paintwork, finish etc)

I've had them off the top in April, so don't rule it out.
