I hear everything your saying Rob thats why i would personally avoid these places apart from in the depts of winter so as not to be seen as part of this problem, the mullet hot spot i seen that day with yourself, plenty of crap left lying around and the same venue only fished by one or two people that know it,they know who they are and so do we, not good at all.RobertMcClean wrote:That's disgraceful. I must admit I have seen Greystones south pier left in a right mess a few times over the summer, along with some well known Mullet marks being left with empty bread bags, cans and balls of fishing line. All it does is fuel the anti-fishing brigade and as Donal says will lead to more banning of fishing in certain public areas/piers. It takes all of ten seconds to gather and bring home your rubish after a trip.

All the rubbish left around is a reflection of the consumer brainless age we live in. I recall all those piers in the past where anglers' or any one elses rubbish was not a problem. Deal with it!

Re: Ballycotton pier
All piers I've been to have been rubbish free, the lads I fish with would take home a bit or at very least put some in a local public bin between there and cork city but this time its different the smell of urine is too much, its a health risk I haven't been back since I've posted this thread, those anyone have an update.

Re: Ballycotton pier
What size hooks/rigs will I need for the flatties? Never targeted them before?
Half thinking of one rod with a nice big bait with a pennel rig that might get a cod and on the other rod some smaller worm offerings for the flatties

id use 4 or 5 size 6 to 2 circle hooks similar to a string of feathers baited up with small strips of mackerel , squid , crab , lug , rag , razor or even tiny fillets of sandeel plenty of beads , glow in the dark material , spinner blades and spoons , snood size about 8 to 12 inches.
5oz or 6oz grip weight with a small 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce drilled bullet weight up above the genie clip on the mainline to keep the baits close to bottom .
max cast 100 ft min cast about 40 to 50ft .
fishing a second rod for cod is a handy idea, you never know .
tight lines man
