People: Me
Duration:6 hrs
Tide:flooding
Weather:Mild, light wind
Bait:Mackerel, prawn, sandeel
Rigs:2 hook flappers
Results: 4 flounder, 1 dogfish
Report:
The weather looked good for Friday night with not too much surf, the wind at my back and a flooding tide into darkness; not only that but decorating was suspended awaiting dry plaster so off I went. I was tackling up on the beach as the sun was setting and before long out went the first rod with a gentle lob into the surf tables. It was about 1 hour into the flood before anything happened and a 20cm flounder showed up. A short time after the best fish of the session, a nice plump 34cm flounder took a prawn bait and smiled for the camera. After another quiet period a double of flounder appeared, perhaps they were coming on the feed properly, but no, not a bite for the next hour and a half. Even the small coalfish didn’t materialise. I decided to try another nearby spot with deeper water but it seemed no better, only a few shooting stars interrupted the monotony. As I was contemplating packing up, one rod gave a couple of very gentle shakes, trembles might be more accurate. It stopped but started again, small coalfish perhaps? Eventually I decided to quit and reeled in .... a dogfish, probably the most timid biting dogfish I have ever encountered.

decent 34cm flounder there JW, thats a result of some sort all the same
i was on the north coast again myself today and it was really quiet. 5hours fishing produced 1 foul-hooked small coley. poor
my baits werent touched the whole time. might try and rectify things tomorrow though
