People:me + 1
Duration: 4 hours (8.30 - 12.30)
Tide: HT 11.00
Weather: Calm, dry & mild
Bait: Peeler (frozen & fresh)
Rigs: 2 hook flappers
Results: Codling & coalfish
Report:
Arrived at our mark in Youghal at 8pm, earlier in the day we'd stocked up on peeler and a friend bought a new rod so we were full of hope arriving...Parked up, took out the gear, only to realise my buddy had left his new rod at home! Turned on our heels and headed straight back to where we started...arrived back at our mark for 8.45 only after I gave my friend a good slating first!
Take 2 - Unpacked the gear and headed to the mark, setup the first rod, the bait was only in the water 30 seconds and there was a fish on, a small codling. Not a bad start to the night so we were hopeful of a few more. It took about an hour before another was landed. My buddy caught a small coalfish to christen his new rod, by about this time I'd stopped giving him grief about forgetting to pack it!!
A few minutes later my mate's rod got a serious hit and came off the tripod, a serious battle to try and land him over the weed below, after a fear it was lost a 3lb coalfish was dragged up, the biggest fish he had ever caught from the shore. Seriously happy with himself and his new rod. I landed a small flounder but returned it to fight another day...think I might need a new rod...
Another pair of coalfish and cod came along to round off an enjoyable evening, a late(r) start than anticipated but good banter all the same. A perfect night for fishing, hopefully a dry December ahead and there'll be plenty more nights ahead, with rods!!

No major problem, the final hour there was a very small bit of movement but 6oz gripper leads did the job pretty well.beechtrawler wrote:Good man Jim that's a nice report and fish landed, had you any problems holding the bottom?
