What is your most memorably catch :?:

Not necessarily THE BIG ONE but one that you wont forget.

One of mine would have to be an octopus. It was very small but took me completely by surprise.

Would have to be my first smoothound. Was fishing an untried mark for bass and got dragged all over the place by an 8 lber. Class when you get something you dont expect!

would have to say either a record huss, first bass or first seatrout... i'll never forget catching either of them...

Fly rod on the bank, leader still dangling in the water as i choose another fly then *BANG*, my biggest ever Brown Trout (3.5lb)... not sea related but my most memorable catch.

Gotta be either my first ever Bass, caught last year at Garretstown the day the ban lifted. A little beauty around the 4/5 lb mark sliding through the surf, hidden under a great big clump of weed....lovely surprise.

Failing that, my first ever Salmon takes some beating caught when I was 15 on one of those hot August days that tends to follow a day of heavy rain. River in peak condition and a lovely 7lber, I can still see it yet, 14 years later, boiled on the surface and swallowed my little brown devon before tearing off like the hammers of hell..... Wonderful day, wonderful fight, I was 20 minutes playing that fish. Just to add a bit of drama the line broke when I was attempting to beach it and I dived headlong on top of it to stop it escaping. A serious soaking but nothing will ever beat that feeling of pride I got walking the couple of miles up the road from the mark back to the house with my catch proudly on display. :D One of those surreal, transitional moments we all have when we are growing up.....That day anyway, I was The Man.....!

My one and only specimen Bass. Caught completly when I wasnt expecting it. Was fishing at 7pm on a sunny night in August with frozen squid and sandeel, light swell rolling in and a rising half tide. Cracking knock on the rod. Tore at least 70 yards of line from the reel.
For the first 5 mins I was sure a seal took the bait. Then when it surfaced I thought it was a conger. (All I could see was a long dark shape on the surface of the water). I soon realised it was a bass and then the panic set in as I was on a rock mark and about 10 feet from the water.
Anyway, I landed it and couldnt believe it. I hadnt got a camera but had my brother in law with me who put the fish at 12Ib. To be honest I think it was more like between 10 and 11 but a cracking fish. Hadnt the heart to kill it so released it. Just wish I had a pic of it.... :cry:

Mine would be my first ever and only bass caught all of two days ago. A total shock, just a pity it was during the ban.It weighed a lovely 2 pounds.

A close second would be a 4.5lb wrasse on a cracking location in Donegal

As previously stated here, my most memorable catch has to be a black bag full of dead kittens...…the smell will live with me for a long time (sorry, but you never said the most memorable fish!)

On the fishy front, it would be a 9lb 2oz bass caught in Clare last year. One of four all over the 5lb mark that day, all released unharmed.

mine would be being very surprised by a 5lb 6oz pollock lol

cast out didnt go very far as the reel birdsnested. spent a good 10 mins sorting out the reel and retrived quickly to get a better cast. whilst reeling in and expecting nothing only had a light grip on the rod, it near left my hands!

had no idea what had happened as the rod bent and went mental lol was a great fight and the biggest fish ive caught must try spinning mackrel and squid cocktails for pollock again sometime lol :D

most memorable for the right, and wrong, reasons would be a 6lbs bass i had in dingle two years ago.

caught it from a surf beach on a plug (a silver big S) , the plug hit the water one turn of the handle and bag. good scrap on the spinning rod and braid. got him into the surf and went to hand land him, chinned him, he flipped and a big treble went flyin into my thumb. doh

just the very tiny tip of the point was sticking out of my thumb, and with human skin being so stretchy i couldnt force the barb through. i didnt want to leave as the fishing was good. so what i did was to get my friend to crush down the barb where we could see it under the skin and then force it through and snip of the point and pull it back out.

it hurt! but i got another bass on the same lure later. i beached that one

it would have to be a toss up between my first fly-caught brown trout in fanad when i was 13 or my first bass which i caught on a late november cod & whiting fishing trip in bray harbour about 10 years ago...after 3 years of trying for bass i had given up hope until i caught what i thought was a small codling on speed.

I reckon ur first fish or unexpected fish are often the most memorable rather than biggest.

Mine would have to be a type of Scorpion fish that i caught in Dun Laoighre when i was about 12/13, was expecting whiting, scared the crap out of me when i reeled it onto the pier thought it was gonna kill me :)

i think mine would have to be the 7lb 4oz and 8lb pollack i caught from the shore earlier this year.from the boat it would be the 26.43lb ling caught out of baltimore :D
