Benone 1/11/14

#1 Post by guernica84 »

Not much to report so look away now if you're hoping for a thriller!

Arrived later than planned around 4pm with LW 7:45pm. I was shocked and horrified to pull in by far the biggest clump of weed I've ever hooked 1st cast. This is a bit of a puzzler to me TBH; strong offshore winds for almost 2 weeks steady yet a beach covered in weed. Anyway, hitting the hallowed 3rd breaker was simply not an option if I didn't want to watch my line swinging around 90+ degrees all night.
We resorted to fishing close, VERY close. It so happened that was where all the pin flounder were. But pin is generous TBH with only 1 counter from 6.
The weed did clear a fair bit towards LW, as did the howling wind and p1ss rain. When the moon came up we were almost tempted to stay for the flood it was such a nice night. Not so though as we'd had enough and Saturday night TV with a Chinese beckoned.
I see that there was an open match there on Sunday with equally poor results so at least I know it wasn't just us!

i know that Benone can produce a lot of good fish but you need to time it right, and with the 3w's (work, wife and wains) i dont get fishing as often or at the best times so tend to go to places i have a chance of catching at any state of tide or weather. Saying that I would love to fish Benone when the timing is right

Well that would mean me doing a lot more fishing  but I will work on it and maybe one day I'll crack that beach, but with the 3w's that could take a while :D
