New personal best Bass
People:Me
Duration:3hrs
Tide:High and dropping
Weather:Moderate NW wind, dry
Bait: Various hard and soft plastic lures
Rigs:
Results:1 Pollock 12cm, 1 Bass 72cm
Report:The smallest and the biggest. Decided to try a spot that is throwing up some bigger fish of late. Got to the mark just at high tide to fish the drop over the reefs. Not much action for the first hour or so, until the light began to fade. I was fishing an IMA Sasuke 105 and thought i could feel a little wiggle. Low and behold when i got it in this plucky little pollock punching well above his weight was hooked up.
I fished on into darkness with no action at all. I was beginning to wonder if it was time to call it a day when WALLOP, something larger than i had ever felt before hooked up and started to strip line from my reel. He took off about 40ft before i could reighn him in again. He repeated this about 4 or 5 times before i finally managed to get him onto the sand.
I knew it was a decent fish by the way he fought but it wasnt until i saw him in the flesh that i realised i had a new personal best. He weighed in at 8lb 2oz and was quite chunky for his 72cm length. It was a huge adrenaline rush and i am still shaking and smiling almost a day later. I took a couple of quick photos and got him back in the water. After a couple of mins he recovered enough to swim asually away. The sight of him swimming away intact almost topped the feeling of being previlaged to land such a beautiful fish in such good condition.
