Greystones Harbour 26th August

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:Me and Fishface

Duration:3-30pm to 7-30pm

Tide:dropping

Weather:northeasterly breeze

Bait:lug,mack

Rigs:2 hook and 3 hook flappers

Results:pouting, eels, shore rockling, 5 bearded rockling, flounder

Report:

Had a handy midweek session with Fishface on Tuesday to use up leftover lug from the weekend. With the stiff northeasterlies blowing we headed to the relative comfort of Greystones Harbour. The waves were coming over the wall even a couple of hours into the drop so we fished inside the harbour. Not a lot of fish about but what's new  . We managed to winkle out a few in the few hours we were there. Lots of weed about so we had to fish close in . I was first in with a shore rockling, then had a silver eel and a nice pouting  Neil caught a nice flounder to add to the mix before getting a few eels himself, there were a few about in the weed. Some unfortunate couple got saturated on the seaward side of the pier,,,we hadnt noticed them looking out to sea,,,, but the clue was in the fact that that side of the pier was soaked,,,thank God there was a cover on the baby's pram. Some young lads arrived to dive in ,despite the fact that there's no diving allowed. We didn't object,,, due to the fact that there's seemingly no fishing either  . There's even a "No Jumping" sign but that was like a red rag to a bull where I was concerned and I have to admit that I had a little jump up in the air on a few occassions  Some guy arrived and pointed his mobile at the "divers". This is a trick I use myself on occasion when trying to get rid of gurriers in the park where I work,,,,,it's supposed to intimidate them,,,,but these were yuppie gurriers and they just politely ignored the "No Diving" enforcer. I did a little jump to distract him but he wasnt interested in illegal jumps and left. We got a couple of five bearded rockling at low tide,,,,,mine were covered in weed  . Headed off at half seven when the stomach rumbled
PS,,,,It was a nice evening to be out 8)
