Still very scarce around Killala Bay. Even the charter boats have been reporting days of total blanks. Mid-July now, worrying...

Got 14 or so today / Sunday, Just out from Ballyvaughan, fished from 4:30 to 8pm, I fried 2 at the slip and I have to say they went down real good with dry bread and tae,

Got almost 60 in an hour or so outside Ballycastle North Mayo last Thurs. Froze 20 smaller ones for bait, barbecued half a dozen, and smoked the rest over rosemary branches in the fading barby. They keep for months in the freezer after that.
Friend was out nearby on Sat and only got 7 in 2 hours, so they're coming and going still.

We caught around a dozen between three of us on Sunday out of Carlingford. Still very patchy - hopefully they'll pick up in August.

Fishing about a mile off Bunmahon a few days back - only the one mackerel. The general view round here is that the macks are very poor so far this year.

Fished for a few hours off Carnesore Point Wexford area last Saturday. Caught one fine sized and two smaller (on the same trace) just off the Coomb strand. Scarce at the minute!

A buddy of mine out by himself in West Connemara had about 200 mackerel last Wednesday. Location around McDaras Island. When he came in they were breaking the water around his house. He reports that they appear to be everywhere. Mixture of medium and an occasional large ones through them.
