Dunmore East,flat rocks disgraceful behavior

Hi Folks,

Lat year I met a elderly man who I got chatting to and he told me he comes to Dunmore east each year as his father was from here, he books into a B&B and goes mackeral fishing,a kind of honour to his dad. As ye do, ye sit down and have the oul chat which I always enjoy. He went on to tell me that the first day he was bullied off the rocks by three lads, he said they started casting over his head and then more or less took his spot even though the rocks where empty.

I had the pleasure of meeting these three/four lads tonight plus four other complete arseholes.

The "arseholes" where catching wrasse to beat the band, I explained nicely that they took a long time to grow and when I catch them I take a photo for my collection, some of the wrasse where over two pounds and some the length of your hand,well over ten wrasse where caught......but they where catching baby bearded rockling also no longer than your finger, i reckon I counted at least ten fifteen in a bucket.

I lost the plot as they kept throwing their rubbish into the sea, carling beer cans and mackerel packs,i ended up fxxxing them out of it but didn't make any difference,literally standing beside me fxxxing the beer cans in the sea ?? That's when the first three guys that bullied the old man got involved, I told him to fxxx off and mind his own business and if he wanted to talk to me come the fxxx over.

When I was leaving I met a man also leaving,we got chatting and he told me that one of the bullies went over behind where a man was fishing with two his kids and had a dump right behind them ??? it beggers belief. These kids as kids do where walking up and down along the rocks ?

I really don't get it,who do you report these people to ? why come to Ireland and treat it like a sxxx hole.

They also couldn't understand why I was throwing back mackeral the same length as your hand.

I'd believe it. F*cking unbelievable!!!! Should have knocked them out. Same thing happened to me on the pier last year. I was bait fishing and some polish idiot starts casting over me. I told him to f*ck off but he persisted but 5 mins later he got a huge birds nest and I just laughed as he walked back to his car and drove home. Idiots... I've also seen them keeping flounder the size of your palm for 'soup'

Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident and has happened all over the coast. The state of some of the mackerel spots in west Clare are absolutely disgraceful with rubbish and old traces thrown all over the place, members of this site have cleaned these areas only to come back again and find them in a similar state Last year a friend and myself took a trip to a spot to get a few mackerel for bait for ray, we had groups on both sides of us who we're not catching fish, we started and hooked into fish from the start, next thing it was like being on a gun range with the amount of lead flying around us (some of it not even hitting the sea which I suspect was part of the plan !!), we pulled one lad about it but found a sudden language barrier !!! We stayed for about 45 minutes and walked away because it was starting to border on the rediculous. Not all are the same as the lads you met but there those that have no respect for the country or other anglers, to be honest I wouldn't even consider them anglers.

It's not just a problem here I've seen it in the uk on many occasions . There are some ( and I use the word very lightly ) anglers who just don't know what size fish to keep and how to deal with them and with some education they soon realise all the mistakes they have made and become very conscientious anglers . BUT you can't polish a t**d and some guys don't give a s*** and will always act like animals just wish they wouldst fall in more often . Mind you in South Wales we tended to throw them in quite regularly , not good ground bait but bloody funny .

Next time you head down make sure you bring more lads and send them for a swim, No violence mind, we cant be condoning that but maybe a friendly leg and a duck and a weeeeshaaaaaaa!!!!

Does the harbourmaster know that they have been tampering with the boats while drunk too, surely the local skippers need to know that too?

These lovely people should possibly be made aware of same too as lots of local business's won't want the beautiful Dunmore associated with that type of behaviour either to visitors.

What a thread - superb!

Yes I agree with most if not all of the sentiment displayed through the various posters.

It's time we tried to stop being too 'P.C.' and 'nicey-nicey' and stood up for what we own and love. I'm not for one minute condoning or suggesting physical fighting but I do think we should all go down and throw a few kicks and punches around. I'm only joking, we should just verbally and loudly express our discontent and if possible try and educate those turds that are polish-able.

And casting braid across their lines might not be a bad idea either!

If you believe that these boys have arrived here by car and the driver might be drinking alcohol then the guards should be informed. Two boys out on a dingy pike fishing on a local lake appeared drunk to me, the guards were informed, I haven't noticed them at the lake since.

Pushed my wife to go fishing with myself and 9 year old son this evening.


She went along climbed the rocks had a few casts ( nearly took head off us both but she tied for play )
Anyhow on exiting our mark a guy was climbing down the mark.

As usual he asked well pal what's happening anything going
I replied no mate very slack as usual.


This was his response in front of wife and son who heard this

The guy pulled a knife out and said f@@ king Irish f@@king go home or go in.


The man packed up and called the guards which arrived and arrested 1 of the guys wok was involved

The poor mam who fished there for 30 years said never again would he go there for pure fear.

I'm not knocking the polish or anything but I'd there is any polish here reading this ya want to get on your social sites and let people know what people like this are starting to think of ye.

If ye can't do that. Don't worry about it were known for sorting things out ourselves

These type of people don't have any respect for anything.
No amount or talking, information signs or friendly advice will change their attitude.

Nah thats beyond taking the piss.... Iv heard story's of Howth and its the reason I wont being my kids there. But its also the reason I never fish alone.

Its getting silly when people are afraid to fish a mark they have been fishing all their lives.

I know a few polish lads that we have fished with and against, I will spread the word on facebook.....
