North Wexford Beach 8th & 9th

#1 Post by jhcabs »

People: Myself and one other

Duration: 3hrs 8th - 4hrs 9th

Weather: Nice on the 8th, started nice on the 9th but turned to Sh#'t

Bait: Crab, Rag

Rigs: Pulleys

Results: only one small hound

Bit of a disappointing report but haven't put up many this year. Fished hard on the Friday night in a spot that usually throws up some great hounds but again not a single bite. Nearly all the spots i know produce from south of Arklow to Cahore seem to be very different beaches after the winter storms. Is anyone else noticing this? Also since i can't go every weekend like i used to, i've been concentrating my efforts to weekends of spring tides and i'm wondering if that's my mistake for the hounds. I've had plenty of bass this year so you'd think the hounds would be easy ;)

I planned to get up at 5.30 by sleeping in the car at the first mark. I was planning on trying another spot with a friend out on the Kayaks but he slept in and i chickened out going alone as i'm still new to the Kayaking game. I slept in the car for another few hours and eventually arrive at another mark that i know can produce hounds in the day light. tried to get out on the kayak but once i popped the boat in the water, the lovely calm looking sea changed completely. Arrrgghhh you got to be kidding me... had to lug the bloody thing back up the hill to the car and off we went to the rock mark to fish into the tidal stream.

first cast, first hound. Thank god i saved my blank! no real size but it was good to feel something pulling on the other end. Had one other great run before i finished up for the weekend and then drove home stinken, tired, and sunburnt

Poor fishing is not really an incentive to put up a report, fair play to ya.
Them beaches can be like a desert on some occasions, everything looks perfect but the fish forget to show up  .

welcome to my world JH!

Its good to see reports of people catching very little to give a bit of perspective on the whole thing

I was down in Bannow last weekend 14 rods in the water - 1 bass 2 flounder for 5 hours

Harsh reality

better luck with the yak next time
