Great Fishing 26-27-july 2014

#1 Post by JOHN1 »

People:3 myself and har and harry

Duration: 2 nice long days

Tide: plenty

Weather:super

Bait:rag macks crab lures

Rigs: various

Results:24 species in total. launce, mackerel, stone basse,cod, pollack,plaice,dab,grey gurnard, tub gurnard,blonde ray, thornback ray, whiting,poor cod,haddock,cuckoo wrasse,octopus,scad, dragonet,ling, lsd.---- conger,ballan wrasse,flounder..........

Report: a little report on my trip last week, this was my first attempt at going for the sharks hopes were high as the previous couple of weeks there were good reports of plenty of action, a bit of dubby made and some bought had us in high hopes of a connect up, i picked a mark 12 miles off starting at 240 feet we drifted out to 15 miles and 275 feet not a sniff of a shark but i did manage a nice ling of 94cm to enter into the clean fish comp :D
me and ling.JPG
har also noticed a stone basse hanging under the boat and after about 10 minutes of all of us trying for it har tempted the fish with a big strip of mackerel on a 5/0 hook beautiful fish about 4.5 lb released asap after a quick picture
har basse.JPG
soon after this i decided to knock the sharks on the head and head off for a few more species which we did the highlight of the first day for me was a cracker of a Blonde Ray and a personal best ray of 20lb
me and 20lb ray.jpg
very happy with this and everything else we had we called an end to the first day on 20 species between us on the boat.not bad for someone that doesn't know the area that well

Day 2 seen us up bright and early to make the most of the time we had (all non drinkers so no hangovers to nurse), we decided against looking for sharks as the weather was forecast to change for the worse which it did,a nice easy going day with plenty of fish and species between us with some super whiting keeping us happy, as the day wore on i headed to one of my old conger haunts epxplaining to the lads that there is always the possibility of a 40 lb fish showing it head, within 10 minutes i was hauling the first conger into the boat a cracker of an eel coming in at 30lb
me and 30lb congor.jpg
I have never seen the lads get up on their seats as quick when i brought him in for a few pictures all in all a great couple of days fishing in great company the 3 of us had not been together in the same boat in about 5 years great craic and the slagging is still the same,we managed to add 4 species to the tally on the second day bringing it to 24.
looking forward to doing it all over again all going well, until next time tight lines.
