#1 Post by paddybongo »

Been out mackerel fishing since the start of may its now just August, been fishing marks from Dalkey to Wexford and only managed 14 Mackerel and they were all very small,iv seen this massive decline in mackerel over the last Ten years! so why? is it over fishing/dredging/climate change ????? Well iv never seen it this bad on the east coast and getting worse year after year. The boats fishing from Dalkey harbor are coming in empty bar the ODD Mackerel, soon be 0 Mackerel.WERE ALL DOOMED :( :( :(

The mackerel have been scarce and mainly smaller than average for the last two or three years. They seem to be thin on the ground in parts of the UK this year too. It could well be due to overfishing as the Icelandic fleet have been hitting them hard for the last few years and there is a 'Mackerel War' between Iceland and the EU as Iceland won't sign up to EU quotas.
