Blue Shark from the shore

#1 Post by coaster »

Hello all.
I was hoping that with the vast knowledge on this site that somebody would be able to tell me if they ever heard of blue shark taken from the shore.
I have found a mark that I believe will produce the goods later in the year as I have seen them within a few feet of the shore.
Has it been done before. Do you think it can be done. Not just hooking in but landing.
All info/comments wanted.

Never heard of blue shark having been taken from the shore in Ireland. The late Jack Shine caught some porbeagle's from the rocks in Clare in the 1960's.

The reason I ask this is because for the last two years in a row I have had them feeding from the rocks but like your mate had light gear with me.
This year I plan to be ready for them :D

Something bigger than the carp rod and small fs I had with me.

Any quality beach caster will do the trick but I think that I will have to look around for a very large reel as it is recommend to have at least 500 yards of 25 - 30 lb line

a big fixed spool and braid might be up to the job, have had catfish to over 150lbs from the bank on this type of gear and it was up to the job.

to land them i would use a tailer.

Funny post... myself and the lads were just talking about this over the weekend from a few rock marks in Clare. How about one of those little radio controlled carp feeder boats? Get it to tow the rig and baloon etc. etc. couple of hundred yards offshore maybe... Now there's a toy for the tackle tart who has everything :-)

They cost an absolute fortune. Pike anglers must be minted....

Seen those boats advertised, dear we buggers. Its worth remembering that Adrian Mollloy's record Bluefin Tuna came within 200 yards of the shore.

Don't think that they would be necessary where I have in mind. There is a strong tidal rip under your feet. You have to cast about 30 yards and let the sea do the rest. :D

This is a shark. Of the basking variety. But it shows how close in sharks will come. Seen big blues not much farther out...
