was pike fishing yesterday from a kayak and upon returning to the shore i seemed to have panicked a coot from its nest
i hope it returned

in case you were wondering.. i only caught 2 jack pike all day. the 2 lads i was with must have had a dozen each though.. and up to 18lb ! think i'll stick to the sea and trout fishing

Heard a cuckoo today while out on Lough Erne, sad that it is a noteworthy event these days.

While down my local river trout fishing yesterday, I was fortunate to have a kingfisher fly past at speed. A short while later there was a pair of jays in the tree above my head, they're usually a very wary and shy bird. A small number of these large yellow flies were hatching and I managed to get one to "pose" for me. The photo doesn't do it justice, to see them in flight with the sun illuminating their wings is something else. I think it is a Yellow May female dun or Heptagenia sulphurea.
