We first headed out to a rough ground mark not far from the launch where Dave tied off to a pot in his brand new kayak and I dropped anchor not far from him. Rods were baited and dropped down. I wasn't long waiting for a bite when the best fish of the day came knocking, a lovely scrap on the 6ft rovex kayak rod. Not huge by any means but I wasn't complaining, a quick shout to the lads on the radio and things were looking good or so we thought. That was the only bite for the next while. I then changed over to smaller hooks in the hope of bagging a few smaller species. Sure enough the poor cod were about. After awhile the toes were beginning to freeze so I decided to test out my new turbo fins on the hobie, well by god I was impressed. The resistance of the push is a little stronger but you gain a lot more in speed and distance for it. I could easily manage maybe 3 knots without much effort.
On I peddled towards the cleaner ground into 50-60ft of water. The wind was easing off and the swell had relaxed so it was very comfortable. I had left the anchor back at the first mark so I was drifting over the sand. There was an endless supply of Whiting along with a couple of Dabs for good measure, After the Whiting had savaged most of the rag I headed back to the rough ground in the hope of a few more Codling but it wasn't to be. The local seals were also out in force, bad enough to compete with the weather but then these guys too
