Howth (various) balscadden, split rock, lower balscadden

#1 Post by Wes »

People: Mate and I

Duration:3hrs 6-9pm

Tide:rising

Weather: Not bad, slight wind.

Bait: Rag, sandeel, mack

Rigs: many

Results: Nowt.

Report: Fair bit of weed, though. Mate hooked a gull, a really big effer too. One thing I hate is untangling them, I've been attacked before and I hate the way the other start to hover around your head  . Pulled it up and got him free of the line. Seemed fine. :)

Try a gannett. Those lads know how to defend themselves.

I one had a gull drop down and take a surface lure, in fact they are always doing it. Have also had Gannets do it in kerry. One grabed the lure and flew off. Damn they are fast. He dropped it but the line had snapped and I lost it.

I caught a cormorant in Kerry(wrapped around my line), a gull on float-fished mackerel strip, and both a gull and a fulmer on spinners! (is that a record?) They're much easier to untangle/unhook if you cover their eyes once you bring them in. Just throw a jacket or tee-shirt over their head and they calm right down. This is coming from a lad with experience! :D

Had a friend play a seal for half an hour before he surfarced. Me mate thought it was the mother of all tope   . Still can't work out who had the biggest surprise on his face, me mate or the seal. By the way for those who are wondering the seal won the fight on points.

Still chuckle when thinking of watching a mate from a distance wrestling with a swan at Berwick on the English/Scotish border a few years back :D :D :D
