Abu Devil Spin- Who has tried one?

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Abu Devil Spin- Who has tried one?

#1 Post by shortcircuit »

Ok guys,

I need a rod that will cast soft plastics, plugs, poppers, etc- my own spinning rod is too heavy (40-80g).

However I'm only getting started and I don't want to shell out big money for something I'm not certain I'll be doing loads of.
On another thread a guy recommended the Abu Devil Spin rod- he said they were great for the money, and if it doesn't work out, how bad, you're not after spending the house on it.

http://www.tackledirectireland.ie/index ... cts_id=342

I know everyone will say "pay the bit extra" and get something really good, and that's fair enough and I value everyone's advice.

However if there's anyone there who has actually owned one of these rods, I'd be reallt interested in hearing from them.

Thanks!

Excellent rod for the money! :) I'd nearly buy it for you so you could just see!

I have one of the 10-30g rods. I like it and it has handled some nice pollack really well. I would recommend it and at that price if you don't like the rod it can still be a nice back up rod.

Went into dan in halfway angling we had a chat and he talked me into going for a rovex ceratec sea bass rod 20-40g for €40. Beautiful looking rod and feels fantastic in the hand.

Next weekend in west cork will tell all! Hopefully I wont live to regret not going for the abu jgraham ;-)

That should be grand in fairness i was just suggesting :) it might be a bit heavy for some of the lighter rapalas and stick baits and stuff like that but it should cover your bases very well for soft plastics! :)

I know I'm a bit late with my contribution but here goes..... The devil is a dinger of a rod for the price of 4 or 5 pints:) casts well and seriously tough! it took the car door to break mine after some epic battles with some decent fish! Have since bought a sure catch salty powerbraid ( great rod by the way) and a 7ft Abu vendetta ( lovely looking, not yet convinced by the action). I am going to buy another devil just to have it for fishing Weightless sps and I bet I'll end up using it for a lot more than just that. Considering that they cost 22 quid for a 'proper' rod, I think everyone should have one in their quiver :)

Ya I've got the Vendetta as well, a casting rod but still the action is way off for the cast rating! it's supposed to be 5-25g but i use the 10-30g devil for my lighter lures and SP's and the Vendetta for 20-40g lures! the action is way off for the rating but i had some serious pollock battles on it and its still fun for the boats!

Actually went back to the devil in the end up!

Tried it out last night felt great but I don't exactly know how far I was casting because it was pitch black!

Do love the feel of the rod though

I'm definitely getting another one. My surecatch salty, shimano vengeance and Penn sea spin will cover the heavier stuff and the devil for the lighter stuff. I think the 7ft vengance will end up being used mostly for vertical work from the boat and piers

Ye may have guessed that I'm a big devil fan ;)
IMHO, it makes the best bass lure rod available for 22 Euro.

What were you using it with? Soft plastics/ hard lures?

Hard lures, it's my first spinning rod paired with a Shimano Alvivio 2500, got Power Pro braid slung on. First time using braid, quick fick...boom it's outta here.
