Tramore Waterford

#1 Post by coaster »

[b]People:me

[b]Duration:2am to about 5am

[b]Tide:high at 3am

[b]Weather:cold, no wind, clear sky's

[b]Bait:mack, squid, sand eel

[b]Rigs:pulley

[b]Results:lots of dogs and 1 bass

[b]Report: Went out after working late to chill for an hour and bumped into 3 other anglers. I asked if they had caught anything and was told not a bite. Decided to give it a go anyway. Got a dog fish on the first cast and a couple more soon after. Around high water things went quite and the other 3 guys decided to head home. As they were leaving they showed me a bass that they had kept  But hadn't told me about in case I was a bailiff. They said that a friend of theirs had been fined the night before in the same spot for possessing a bass :D :D
Anyway, Fished on for a while longer and a couple of dogs later said 1 more cast and I off. Bait had only hit the water and the rod started knocking to the tune of a 3lb bass. All fish were returned and swam away strong.
Nice to get a few after a long dry spell for me.

Were they serious? I haven't heard of that before. Fantastic. Shame their gear was confiscated too...

just shows the fine isint a deterant at all if they were cheeky enough to head back the next night and keep one

how much would it be any way - like you were saying - confiscation of the gear would be a pain in ar*e, probably have more effect in these celtic tiger times :(

Probably the standard on-the-spot fine of €65....

As for going back again and taking another fish... assholes!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Their friends

#5 Post by John D »

It was actually their friends that were caught the night before so hopefully the fine proves a deterrent for their friends!?

I dont understand why people have to keep bass like this. I was in Malahide about 3 years ago and saw a guy ctach and keep two bass approx 8Ib each caught one after another. Put into a sack and taken away. These fish had probably been visiting the estuary forn years. Such a shame. Just take a pic and put it back. :(
Top 3 lure caught bass 2017 :
10Ib 5 oz

Taking a small number of fish during the season for eating is one of the perks of the job. However I have to agree, unless you're throwing a dinner party, why would you need 2 8lb fish from one session. If you're going to freeze it, go an buy some bloody Donegal Catch.

Have to agree - I don't mind someone taking a fish for the pot, but taking a bag full of fish is ridiculous.... have seen the same lately on the western lakes, guys catching 10 or 12 fine trout and taking them all away... then they wonder 5 years down the line why the fishing is so poor... then they blame the fisheries boards, farmers, sewage treatment plants, anyone but themselves....

Im afraid im from the put them all back way of thinking, besides chicken tastes nicer and there are plenty of those about..!

I tried to talk sense to the guy but all I got back was " I eat them anyway bud". I have seen him since keep good sized bass from that mark.
