Russians want to dam Strangford Lough

I had to check that it wasn't April the 1st when I read this article! Surely such an absolutely terrible idea would be shot down at the first hurdle, never mind the public outcry from the tens of thousands of people who use the Lough recreationally and as a place of work!

Anyone else heard anything?

Very interesting read Drew... I can see this one gaining some traction with the council at least.

The Russians are coming! So are the Chinese. According to the news today they have or are about to buy a share in the UK nuclear industry. 20% I think.

Heres another unbiased BBC report from some journalist(I use the term lightly) who couldnt even be bothered to cover this story with any great interest other than the perspective of government funding and the creation of a handful of jobs. The company in question want to store natural gas in underground caverns currently these caverns are full with tonnes upon tonnes of salts and minerals, the said company are going to excavate these caverns by pumping hot water at high velocity through pipes underground which all seems fair enough but its where the mineral and salt waste is going that is the main point for us fishermen, its going direct into the Irish sea and will be devastating to the surrounding area. Nevermind the Russians and Chinese its our own bin lid politicians that are to blame for their blinkered view they are a disgrace.
Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.
