Carne pier, 23/09/13

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: me fein

Duration: 8-10.30

Tide: high 8pm

Weather: warm, v. little breeze

Bait: maddies

Rigs: 1 hook ledger, 3 hook flapper

Results: little coalies, flounder, sort of

Report: after an intense weekend at the closed in connacht and the usual too much bait left over, i decided to use up the maddies

hadnt tried this pier before, just ledgered 10lb line with an ounce on the end and size 6 hook
had great sport trying to outwit the little fellas
feeding on the straight drop down and out 20m

i stuck a 3 hook flapper out with 4/5 maddies on each hook - but they were cleared by either crabs or these coalies in no time

it was such easy fishing compared to keem bay on sat night - with a big swell and weed accompanied by wind
i had a stream filling up with the wash of the sea in front of me - with my tripod supported by boulders - willing any fish on and avoid the dreaded blank - and my gear being washed away!

i could just sit on the nice wooden bench - with the light on the end of the pier showing me all

seen a rockling swimming higher in the water and another round fish coalie/bass/pollack further out

but the little coalies kept at it

after 2 hours the tiredness of the weekend was catching up on me - so i headed back to van

threw two casts out on the "beach" at the inside of the pier

i reeled in the first to no joy - but the single ledger had a flounder on - a counter in the twenties
on the light gear it was great craic - but as i raised him up the pier side - the flinching got him off
fair play to him!

that was enough for me and off home with the maddies all gone

a real pleasure fishing session

Nothing better than one of these relaxed impromptu sessions, peaceful and quiet surroundings, a few fishies to top it all up. Preferable to any noisy and expensive tourist hotspot holidays. Lovely report!

Some times those handy relaxing sessions can be the best  ,,,,no stress from targeting big fish and thinking about the distance you've travelled, the diesel you've used and how much the whole effort has cost  ,,,and there's always the chance of getting something decent and unexpected
