Checking the knots

I check all knots on shock leaders after each trip and find I have no difficulty breaking them, maybe I am paranoid or just extra strong but is this normal for everyone. I use 35 mm line most of the time.

Not sure. Haven't done it myself but would it be helpful to tie on a scales, hook on a 5 gallon drum and start filling??? 1l = 1kg.

Hi Pat,

I had the same problem when using an albright knot.

I have recently changed to a Bimini Twist knot - really good knot and you do not lose any breaking strain on the reel line - if the line is 15lb, the knot will still be 15lb (other knots will break at lower strain than the line it is tied from).

The only problem comes if you get a snag and try to break out....

I learnt how via a DVD from Sea Angler - trying to get a clip uploaded to the site.....

Jude I use that knot and it is great when initially tied but after a nights fishing I find it easy to break.
