W Waterford, 22nd Aug 2013

#1 Post by Stan »

People: Me, Willy, Jim Mc

Duration: 4 hours

Tide: rising and falling

Weather: Brilliant

Bait: Lugs, razors, crab

Rigs: 2 hook traces

Results: Bass, bass and more bass

Report: Set off from Dublin at 6am and arrived in Ardmore 2.5 hours later. Had breakfast and off to dig some big black lugworm. As the tide was high we were able to dig in a spot that only uncovers for some very high tides.

As there was little wind and bright sunshine we did not have great expectations of getting bass. To make matters worse there was weed everywhere and it was obvious that fishing could be difficult

On the first cast my rod got a hit and in came the first bass, a very welcome fish of about 3lb :D :D :D . Then Jim had one the same :D :D :D .

No sooner had Jim’s next cast hit the water than he started shouting and I ran to see a beautiful fish heading for the beach. The scales tipped 8.5lb. What cracker :D :D :D
Jim Mcs bass 4.jpg
After that it was mayhem with fish after fish being landed and many more missed. Most were 2- 3.5lb and nearly all were returned.
Next day conditions were the same and we were to go boat fishing but decided to try for a repeat performance. Three friends joined us expecting another marverlous catch…… we caught 3 small bass. THAT’S fishing

Two weeks before this I was on the same beach and caught 2 fish, a bass and a guilthead bream. Hoped to do a report but had no internet. So here is a photo of same.

Thanks for the comments. Looks like even better bass fishing ahead in W Waterford. Jim fished a shore competition in Wicklow on Saturday night. It was won by 2 fish...biggest 22cm...........could be used for bait down south :!: :!: :!:

It is important that the South coast is not fished out like the Irish sea
