Achill
Duration:4pm to 9pm
Tide:rising
Weather:bright and sunny
Bait:sandeels mackerel
Rigs:spinning and pully
Results:mackerel conger pollock
Report:we parked the car at purteen harbour and set of on a 25 min walk over rough ground bog and deep gullies
to get to the mark but it can be well worth the efford we both set up our spinning rods and i set up my beach rod casting out a half of mackerel on a wire trace.
gavin caught the first fish a pollock of about a pound then a mackerel and another.
i was fishing with a sandeel not catching anything so i switched to a spinner we were both catching mackerel and a couple of small pollock for the next half an hour.
when suddenly my ratchet sang out i picked up the rod and struck home after a short struggle he was on the surface a conger of ten pounds exactly happy days.
we finnished our session with 42 mackerel 3 small pollock and a conger.

Re: Achill
Nice fishing men. I ventured over to Achill myself on Friday and tried fishing Keem Bay and Purteen Harbour on the Saturday with little success. I saw two lads heading up over the hill to the right with their gear. May well have been you. I'm thinking of heading back the end of September to try again. If you can offer any advice on marks and tactics I'm all ears!
