White Rock

#1 Post by youonlythevinegar123 »

People: Myself

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Mixed

Bait: Rag

Rigs: One hook, Float

Results: Wrasse

Report: Hadn't been out fishing for the guts of a year between the Leaving and that so I decided I'd head down to white rock and see if anything was going. I fished over the rocks and managed to catch around 7 or 8 wrasse. The easiest fishing was probably with the float. There were no monsters, with nearly 5 fish around the pound mark, on tiddler and 2 two pounders. If I had been using limpet I'd say I'd have managed a few 3 or 4 pounders as my brother has been down there snorkling recently and has seen a few big boys. Don't have a camera so no photos unfortunately. Am thinking of trying for a tope from the shore around Killiney or White Rock area before the end of September. Can anyone advise on where to try? I'll happily swim out a few hundred yards with my bait and weight as I'm a very strong sea swimmer, so depth & distance shouldn't be a problem.

I have heard of them in killiney bay from the boats but If you can head further south, i have also heard of them from the shore in kilcoole and killoughter but I wouldn't attempt to swim the bait out, if that line tangled around a foot or leg etc you'd be in trouble. I might be out in killiney the weekend if I am I could drop the bait out for you in the yak

Thanks Anthony I might give it a try later on in the year, your probably right about the swimming, might be a bit dodgy without an extra person in the water
