Copper coast bass
People:me
Duration:
7.30 to 10.30
Tide:
Dropping
Weather:like November
Bait:mackerel
Rigs:pully
Results:4 dogs 1 small Huss and 1 bass
Report:
Hadn't got out for a bit and the chance came last night so off I went with a few fresh macks from a good mate, planned on fishing the lady's slip but had being out snorkelling durning the good weather for a bit of excerise plus checking out the marine life as I going.
During this scouting excerise I found a few new spots that looked very fishy and was mad to get a bait out there. We had seen some nice bass 2 days before in the kelp BIG BASS well into double figures. From the off it was fish on dog followed dog and a small Huss showed up first firm the shore so happy days.
As the tide dropped a bit I could get to a mark I saw 2 wks back so walked 100yards further down a cast out full mackerel 40 yards praying I landed in what was only about twice the size of a tennis court area in very rocky part of this beach. No more than 5 mins past and game on the rod starts buckling in the rest. Into hand took in the slack and lifted into what I first thought was a conger from the sheer power but quickly new this was no conger as took of left the right taking line with it.
During trying not to give myself a heart attack I new if the fish got anyway near the rocks or kelp its game over, thankfully he came towards and a most grateful wave done the rest flicked on the headlamp and as you say nearly drunk myself a 11.3 lb bass a new pb couldn't believe it.
All I can say is if you have snorkels get them wet you never know what little diamond you'll find in the rocks
