Dublin lure buddy

#1 Post by jhcabs »

Hi Guys

I've been trying to get out as much as possible with lures but i'm finding it difficult, well unsafe really due to the fact that most of the guys i fish with are bait anglers and I end up lure fishing alone. Last sunday i gave myself an awful scare which is the reason for the post. I was fishing a new rock mark in north wexford (very promising mark and i did see someone catch later that morning) and while wading out i slipped off a submerged rock and wedged my knee between two boulders up to my chin in water. The tide was coming in quickly and needless to say i was quite shakin up i freed myself.

I'm really enjoying learning lure fishing but as yet i haven't had a bass. have had pollock and mackeral though. I'm just not getting out enough with the lure gear.

I was just wondering if there are any fellow lure anglers in Dublin or wicklow who would like some company on lure sessions around the counties of dublin and wexford? Maybe someone else at the same level so we can learn from each other or someone who wants to share some wisdom, especially around working lures correctly, looks so easy on youtube ;)

You were lucky man . that sounds dodgy . I'm in the same boat myself . haven't caught a bass yet . Have tried lure fishing many times , all the gear but loosing faith with it . will be trying for next few months if ye wanna msg me when your going ill try make it. I've knowledge if lure fishing for pike ,trout and perch but limited bass lure knowledge . it's the when, where and weather conditions that I haven't figured out yet . tight lines

Hi John,

its Tom here, i was on the Jim Hendrick lure workshop with you back in April. Sounds like you had quite a close call, very good idea to pair up when you can. i saw this earlier http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... =8&t=43522 maybe you can meet up with him and keep ye both a bit safer.

i only had my first lure bass last week, 2 fish around 2lbs, great feeling and worth the wait. If you are ever down Waterford way give me a shout, maybe we could get you a bar of copper coast silver.

tight lines and stay safe.

Tom.

well done on popping your cherry Tom. i may need to hire a bass escort soon ;) i can only imagine the feeling. Saw a bloke catching bass on the fly in kerry last week and two guys catching them the day i had my fall so i know i'm getting close. last time was a bit too close though.

Caught a bass on Inch strand though, but was on bait. Still felt great getting one in such a beautiful place.

Planning on making a trip to waterford in two weeks for the next spring tide so will get in touch.

Dropping you a PM now mate.

I've learned alot about the 'when' and 'weather conditions' from very good anglers here on the forum, which has helped in a massive way during my bait fishing efforts, but i need to get out more in Dublin, Wicklow and Wex to put it all together to find the 'where'.

Hi John

Eoin here from the workshop too. You're right about the fishing buddy as you can't be too careful in the water.

I'd be definitley interested in some lure fishing sessions in August and september. Wexford or Dublin okay with me so just send me a PM.

Hi John, I've managed some bass on soft plastics from the boat. Great fun on the 20g rod. Haven't done much from the shore since the workshop, but would defo be interested in grouping together and conquering this lure fishing for bass thing.

Yep, I've heard a few reports, I'll have to try and get out some evening this week. Managed a bass on a shallow diver from rocks near Kinsale on Saturday evening.
