Old Head Clew Bay

#1 Post by seank »

People: James, myself

Duration:7pm-9.30pm

Tide:High and dropping

Weather: Sunny, warm calm

Bait: Frozen Mackeral

Rigs: 2 hook flapper size 1 hook

Results: 13 dogs, 2 thornies

Decided to take a quick run out to old head to try the cliff where i've blanked many times. This time was somewhat many different with dog after dog coming to shore in the 2 and half hour session. I was casting over foul ground onto sand maybe 50-70 yards out in search of flatties but clew bay being clew bay the doggies will always be there. I think my chosen bait of frozen mackaral contributed to the large catch of the buggers but i brought to small Thornies a shore so happy with that.. Going to try ragworm and lug next time out see does make any difference. All and all was good session my mate hadn't been fishing in years so was delighted with the action. Beautiful place to fish from to :)

Will upload photo's from my mates phone soon...

yes it is a cracking spot that not too many use, cracking scenery too, dogs down that way are always as disaster and even worse at night, sure Westport even has a dogfish festival ,,,and the next day or two after that the thornies are alive and kicking due to the doggies being let back and some might just have small gashes from the hooks etc,,I have no doubts that plaice, flounder and sole could be taken with the right baits at distance,,swure let us know how you get on if you try,all the best
