Info on a multiplier reel for beginner .

#1 Post by Determined Dan »

As it says above , going to try giving multi casting a go , but have never really done it before. So what reel to get any help on make and models, not going to break the bank on this one lads incase it dosent work out , and if you have a reel you don't want let me know and we can see if we can deal. O I would be using a Ian golds premier match or international rod I was told they can handle both types Of reels. I hope.

I'd Echo Steve on that one. Try get yourself a good condition Penn Mag 525. This reel will cover everything you need it to do. The Abu 6500 is also a really nice piece of kit, but if you regularly catch and haul 3 doggies at a time the stronger Penn would be my choice. If you can't find something 2nd hand, have a look at the Okuma Magnatex. The 20 size without level wind is also a really nice reel.

Avoid levelwind reels at all costs in this instance! An original Daiwa 7HT a great choice too if you find one.

I have a Penn mag extra 525 its used but in good condition working perfect if your looking for one.I would agree on the level rind reel they are just awful to use .I had one years ago and they never stopped getting birds nests.

i started wth the penn 525mag based on advice from this forum and got no complaints (although i havent really used anything else), with the magnetic brakes on the slowest setting i was able to start casting short distances straight away, as confidence built i eased back a bit and my distance improved.

- still the odd birds nest but i guess thats part of learning:)
