East Coast Hound Sessions (5 sessions)

#1 Post by jhcabs »

22th - North Wex - Me, Sweetwrasse, +1
25th - Dublin - just me
26th - Dublin - Me, Sweetswrasse, + 2
28th - North Wex - Me, John86 + 1
29th - North Wex - Me, Modulgous, Corbyeire

Tide: Fished the flood tides in Dublin and mixed bag in Wex. all fish in darkness

Weather: mostly nice, stayed in sheltered beaches.

Bait: just crab, lots and lots of crab

Rigs: 2/0 and 3/0 pullys

22th - This session was the roughiest weather of the 5. The wind was picking up from the SW and was side sweeping the beach. at first it was ok and hit a hound to open the bank account but as the wind increased in strenght the fishing died off comepletely. We moved around the headland to a shallow beach facing north which usually turns up nothing but sweet wrasse managed a decent sized hound to finish off the session

25th - Rarely fish alone as i tend to get bored but didn't have a chance this night as the rods just simply kept bending. must have had about 9 hounds in all but only 6 of them i would consider decent up to about 5 or 6lbs. i have no scales currently so can't confirm. weather was lovely and every time i was into a big hound there was always someone passing by who could give me a hand hauling them up the rocks. not a bad workout poolbeg can be

26th - same spot as the 25th but this i wasn't alone. there was four of us. again the weather was perfect and we couldn' have timed the fish any better. added about 40 mins extra to account for the same stage of the tide from the night before and when the time approached we immediately hit the hounds. again 3 or 4 and the session was over. the bosses were calling us home. the rocks up the walls really get a burn in the old muscles the next day.

28th - Met up with John86 from courtown and fished his local mark. hit a decent hound on the first cast and it was pretty much like this all night. i lost count after a while but nothing over the 6lb mark. caught a little tope about 1lb which was actually the highlight of my night.

29th - Fished with Mark and corbyeire on a new mark that was suggested to us to hold big hounds as its were they go to pup. we arrived quite early so the first two hours was spent ejoying the sunshine and making a few rigs. i was just saying to brian that i think we made a mistake when my rod took off and nearly ended up in the sea. 4 or 5 hounds later and another session over. great spot and i will be back on the next spring tide

Very happy, tonnes of hounds but nothing above 6lb which was my target. still early in the season though.
