People:Me & Anthony
Duration:An evening and a morning
Tide:Medium to big tides
Weather:Mostly sunny, dry and warm. A bit blustery at times but the water clarity remained clear - perhaps a bit too clear.
Bait:N/A
Rigs:Various hard and soft plastics
Results:1 lost bass
Report: We fished some excellent bass terrain early in an oncoming tide in East Cork from about 17:30 to 20:45. Then we fished the last hour and a half of an incoming tide late in the morning on a South Wexford mark. Anthony had a decent fish snap his fluro on a hard lure at a bit of a distance out but other than that it was a wee bit disappointing. Perhaps the clarity was too clear or there wasn't enough wave activity. Or it could've been too late at the end of the recent set of spring tides. Sometimes after all the effort and money we put in we end up trying to rationalise why the results were poor. But we won't stop trying, in fact it makes us more determined. It was nice to be out in the wild in nice weather and great company.

Was out myself Saturday with a similar result John. The water was crystal clear with a bright day and very little in the way of white water, but like you said, it wont stop me trying. Tight lines!

Howya John,
At least you got out over the weekend.Thats the main thing! I heard thet you's also came accross some nice new marks aswell. If anything that is a bonus for planning future outings.I was kicking myself on saturday as i would of loved to have got out myself.
Pitty about Antos bass!! Fluro eah, something many people forget to check before casting. All the casting into rocky areas eventually takes its tole on the line and in the end it costs us the lure and the fish. Its amazing how such a small amount of line can make or break ur session if not checked.
And yes money spent on the fishing alone!!! Between the tackle, clothing and accessories and the over all cost of driving from dublin to the southern parts of the country, its not easy on the pocket especially in the current climate, but when hunting new marks its all worth while when the lure gets smahed, the rod folds and the reel screems.(Priceless).
On another note, for me my bass fishing from now till the end of the season will be from Rush to Balbriggan. I want to focus my fishing around these areas and see what we have on our own doorsteps for a change.
The reason for my change in fishing locations is fishing reports.Sometimes when i read a fishing report i feel like the fish getting lured in ,next of all, were in the car, driving endless hours and so many wasted hours and furthermore no fish!.I want to try steer clear of blogs and posts and focus on my own ability to explore and learn about grounds that could just have as much enjoyable fishing that ive experienced down south.
Anyways,well done on your session.

Re: Cork & Wexford Bass hunt
It's not easy at the moment. I fished the evening rising tide from 5.00 - 11.00 pm on Saturday on a West Waterford mark which has been good in the past and just had one small pollock to show for 6 hours fishing!!!!
The water was clear, but there was a bit of a swell which put some fiz into it but the sea was just dead. I could see no bait fish, no sandeels, no sea bird at all, never mind birds diving into the water. There were a couple of splashes from pollock late in the evening but no sign of bass.

Re: Cork & Wexford Bass hunt
hi lads fished a east cork mark last thursday morning and evening and again on the fri morning, hooked and landed 8 fish and lost about 4 the sea was flat calm and water clarity was very clear with sunshine.the fish were all in the 2 to 3lb bracket and at times were jumping clean out of water at one stage a double figure jumped right in front of us i nearly s**t myself also while wading at early flood we spooked a few bass cruising in around rocks right in front of us best fishing ive had in awhile. just got lucky by the sounds of things but the strange thing is this mark i think produces better in calm conditions just a thought.its a pity ye didnt fish a few days earlier but thats fishing keep the heads up good things come to those that wait.
