Re: West Clare Pollock
Why, if you are going to eat it. keeping larger Pollock that are already mature and mating is worse where as a smaller one that hasn't matured enough o mate has less effect on overall numbers, same goes for bass.edinburgheire wrote:Keeping 1.5lb pollock is a disgrace.

Always CAR! unless its a pollock...!
2012 species: Pollock, Mack, Coalfish, Gurnard, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Wrasse.
Would do anything for a bass!

Many reasons, there is little eating in a 1.5lb pollock, it never had chance to breed,agardiner22 wrote:Why, if you are going to eat it. keeping larger Pollock that are already mature and mating is worse where as a smaller one that hasn't matured enough o mate has less effect on overall numbers, same goes for Bass.edinburgheire wrote:Keeping 1.5lb pollock is a disgrace.

1 larger fish that has bred is better than 3/4 smaller ones,
absolute disgrace

Re: West Clare Pollock
no min size limit so anyone can take bucketfulls of what ever tiddlers they like
i dont think a 1.5lb pollock is undersize for eating ,they are not endangered due to their fetish for kelpy rocky ground
anyway where does it say he kept a 1.5 lb pollock ?the three in the pic all look like eating fish to me
the smallest is about 19 inches long ?
i think a good look and read of someones report is in order before you get on youe moral high horse
the only complain about this report i have is that pictures of live fish with a nice background are more pleasing to the eye and encouraging to others to get out in the fresh sea air

All fish in the pic were over 1 1/2 pounds.
You must have a savage appetite if you dont get much eating in a 1.5 lb pollock...
The fillets from the 3 fish equates to 4 or 5 decent meals for my family for what its worth.

I've had Pollock jump clear of the water after a lure they have been that eager to get in the pan.
Nice fish, nice result, nice feed.
Good fishing mate.

Nice fishing Kaiser, the 3 in the photo are fine lumps I'd say they all gave a mighty scrap.

No wonder there is no fish about, seems its not just the foreigners eating goldfish sized catches.

Re: West Clare Pollock
Nice fish, I have taken similar sized pollock for the pan earlier this year. My view - taking a few rod caught pollock home will not make a dent on the overall stock.
