Fahan mullet

#1 Post by pete »

Was at the marina this morning and spotted a group of approx 6 mullet at the top of the water, were busy hoovering in something from the surface. I walked right up to where they were at and they didn't seem bothered at all...just kept on feeding..surprised at how bold they were. They weighed between 2lb and 4lb, seen a bigger one that would have made the specimen 5lb right out at one of the end of the fingers. Plenty of sandeel in swimming around the boats too.

They were inside the marina, right along the walkways. The marina gate is normally locked but you could fish for them at the end of the breakwater. They were very confident and not easily spooked like mullet normally are.

Lets not be too niave...mullet are targeted and caught as a by-catch by commercial netsman. If they were being used for pot bait the heads would be left on. Someone has probably just netted a few and theyve been gutted had their heads removed and put in the freezer or BBQ.
Its hardly going to decimate the stocks

Hi Andy,

Can you resize these pics please to about 750 pixels wide and a nice size for our dial up users (about 80k - 90k). It also makes the post easier to read.
