Orca Youghal 22-May-2013

#1 Post by Cluais »

People:just myself

Duration:5hrs

Tide:filling

Weather:sunny but windy

Bait:lug tipped with squid

Rigs:

Results:2 thornbacks,1 Plaice,coalfish,pollock and lost a blondray

Report:
Headed out today with plaice in mind so out with the light rod, size 2/0 hooks and few beads and spinning blades first drop thornback.
Second drop locked into something big took me a good 10 min bringing it up slowly on the light spinning rod and reel, with about 3 foot to go I could see my first blond then snap the braid gave way and it slowly sank to the bottom again..
Set up drift again into another thornback and last drop finally managed a plaice
Stopped on the way back to try for Macks but only managed a few pollock and coalfish
Will post pics later

Nice fishing Damien!
Just a note on the tagging:
I tagged a load of blondes one year. They were all tagged in the wing. About a year later I caught a tagged ray (only one I ever recaptured of around sixty). The wing was bad looking as the tag had picked up weed and the hole where the tag went through was raw.

Nice one Damien, pity about the blonde, but that's a fine plaice to make up for it. :D
