Re: Folding Anchor for 16ft boat
I had a folding one before on a Warrior 165 and it kept dragging, changed to the Bruce(which seems to be the most widely used type I've found)and didn't move an inch after that on both sand and reefs..
I'm sure others will give there ideas later on the subject

Re: Folding Anchor for 16ft boat
The key to any type of anchor is a lenght of good quality 8mm chain, i use about 16 ft on my predator never any problems dragging. also i would never dream of putting a bruce or any kind of sand anchor into a reef even if it is set to trip or not.
what i make up for the rough ground is a grapnell with 10 mm steel prongs with about 20 mm for the main shaft works a treat and very cheap, any welding shop will sort you out with scraps of steel

john,if you have a couple of anchors on board, how do you swap them over,is it just by a knot on rope,or a metal clip,do you have chain on each,or just use one length of chain, was thinking about this,as the 7kg bruce and 20ft of chain is getting very expensive, and would a clip be strong enough to pull an anchor out if it was stuck fast,eddie.........

Hi,
get a stainless steel shackle from the marine suppliers and you will have no problems with them rusting you can also use standard galvanised ones just put some grease on the threads, and just switch them over i keep a short lenght of chain on the danford sand anchor i use also if using a bruce type by having a short chain on it you can always have it ready to trip because you just shackle chain to chain.
i shackle directly to an eye on the top of the grapnell
