South Wicklow beach, 18/4/13.

#1 Post by Sweetwrasse »

People: Corbyeire and myself

Duration:17.45-21.45

Tide: dropping

Weather: moderate/light westerly, some showers, about 12C

Bait: rag, mack, frozen lug

Rigs: flappers and pulleys

Results: 8x whiting, 1x dab, 1x flounder, 1x 5-b rockling

Report: With the fine evening yesterday and a few days of westerlies to clear out the weed decided on a handy beach session after work. The water was very dirty after the winds of earlier in the week so plans to lure fish until dusk set-in were shelved and the bait gear set-up.

Fishing couldn't be described as hectic but did yield 4 species. Nothing of any great size and all fish came dusk into darkness to rag. Nice wee dab on last cast to 20 cm so another species for the 2013 list. Nice way to finish a very pleasant session 8)

P.S. Is it still too early to mention smoothies??!

nice return of fish to you at least

i was begining to think i was like the william H macy character in the cooler - if you needed a dud session come out fishing we corbyeire!!!

at least that was put to bed last night with you catching

i blanked somehow in a plague of whiting - i put it down to the fresh rag - thats my excuse
did i mention i wasnt using any hooks and my bait was the power of the mind......

think the water temp needs to stay high for a few weeks yet before talk of smoothies is realistic

Bassboy, if you mean Wicklow harbour I don't know. But if the beaches are starting to show some life I'm sure the harbours will produce something. Wicklow pier usually gives a nice mix of species in summer.
